US approves use of malaria drugs to treat COVID-19

The United States Food and Drug Administration has approved the limited use of malaria drugs for the treatment of Coronavirus Disease.
This was disclosed in a statement by the US Department of Health and Human Services on Sunday.
President Donald Trump had hinted of the use of the drugs, including chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, as potential COVID-19 treatments.
The statement on Sunday said the FDA had allowed them “to be distributed and prescribed by doctors to hospitalized teen and adult patients with COVID-19, as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible.”
