Breaking: Presidency queries Lawan over appointment of aides

The Presidency has queried the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, over the appointment of some of his aides, The Eagle Online has learnt.
Of major concern to the Presidency, sources told this newspaper, is the choice of media aides by Lawan.
And this, sources said, has set Lawan on a collision course with the Presidency.
This led to his invitation on Wednesday for an impromptu meeting with the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
Lawan had early this week appointed a former Features Editor and Chairman of the Editorial Board of Tribune Newspapers, Festus Adedayo, as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
He followed it up on Wednesday with the appointment of three media aides of his predecessor, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
Saraki’s aides appointed by Lawan are Isa Mohammed as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Olu Onemola as Special Assistant on New Media and Tope Brown as Senior Legislative Aide on Media and Publicity (Photography).
The appointments were said to have generated serious controversy in the Presidency as a result of the online protest of some loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adedayo was accused of having written opinion articles in the past attacking Buhari.
Beyond this, he has also served in a Peoples Democratic Party-led Government in Enugu State when he worked with former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani.
Dr. Nnamani is now in the Senate on the platform of the PDP.
Saraki’s aides are also believed to have been part of the hostile team of the former Senate president that consistently worked against Buhari though they were a part of the All Progressives Congress before defecting to the PDP.
The Eagle Online learnt that some of the President’s men are compiling online reactions to the new appointments by Lawan.
A Twitter user: @Olatunji5761080, said: “Can u in margin some one dat is praying 4 d death of mr president dat did not want d success of d party is now becoming d SA media to d Senate President of the same party.”
@asadeabiodun tweeted: “I hope SP Lawan will remove the guy from his staff. He shouldn’t begin is regime with this irrelevant misstep. No need to start building mistrust among your fellow senators.”
@cbngov_Akin1: “SP @DrAhmadLawan Festus Adedayo appointment is a big joke. You can’t ridicule us this way. This is another article from him just a year ago when he was abusing and cursing our PRESIDENT AND APC.”
Lawan after the meeting, however, insisted that his regime will accommodate the opposition.
According to Lawan who spoke with State House correspondents after the meeting, the mandate given to the new leadership of the National Assembly cuts across all political parties.
He said: “As new National Assembly, we have received a bipartisan mandate from across the parties.
“The Peoples Democratic Party, the Young Progressives Party voted for us and we believe that this time and opportunity to consolidate the support that we received across the political parties in the National Assembly.
“We believe that we must remain united in the National Assembly.
“We must remain focused for us to be able to deliver those legislative interventions that are necessary for good governance in the country.
“We also believe that we must foster relationship with the Executive Arm of government that is based on cooperation and collaboration.”
