IG’s Trending Video: Journalist Goes Into Hiding, Comedians Release Videos On Blunder
A journalist with Liberty Television, Aminu
Nurudeen, suspected to have posted the viral
video showing the Inspector General of Police,
Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a speech at a
public event in Kano, has gone into hiding,
Saturday PUNCH is reporting.
The highly authoritative newspaper said the
journalist went into hiding after he was invited for
questioning in relation to the video by the Kano
State Police Command.
As earlier reported by The Eagle Online,
newsmen at the event were given strict
instruction not to report that aspect of the event.
Some of them who were called by the Editors on
why they did not file that aspect of the event,
said they feared for their lives if they did owing
to the threat that accompanied the instruction
not to publish.
The summons to Nurudeen, according to
Saturday PUNCH, was issued on Thursday by the
spokesman of the Kano State Police Command,
SP Musa Magaji Majiya.
Meanwhile, comedians have, like they did with
the error committed on television by the former
Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil
Defence Corps in Lagos State, Obafaiye Shem,
taken Idris’s error to the screen.
As at Friday evening, no fewer than two videos
on the error of Idris were in circulation.
However, Idris has claimed that the video was
doctored.
In response to a question on the police Twitter
handle: @PoliceNG, Idris said: “Yes, it was
doctored.”
